Dairy Digestible Amino Acid Model
Dairy Digestible Amino Acids are the sum of microbial plus intake essential amino acids absorbed across the cow’s small intestine. It includes contributions from intake amino acids that are not degraded in the rumen.
The Dairy Digestible Amino Acid Model bases amino acid needs on optimum tissue maintenance, growth, milk production and the relative efficiency of amino acid use. Cargill Animal Nutrition has been awarded three patents resulting from more than two decades of research into amino acids and dairy production. Our model calculates a degradation rate for each essential amino acid in the Rumen Undegraded Protein (RUP) fraction. RUP fraction amino acid profiles therefore differ from those of intake amino acids. This is a key departure from other models used in the dairy industry.
The model is used in conjunction with:
Ingredient Evaluation Tools – to measure those physical characteristics of feed ingredients that impact rumen fermentation
AutoCalc™ system – to update amino acid supply sources based on nutrient profiles and physical characteristics
MAX™ system – to translate amino acid supply into precise diets and products customized to your operation
