The Right Now Mineral Solutions Guide

“My mineral has sulfur & iron listed on the tag and I know my cattle need them, but they’re not on your tags; what are you hiding?”

Answer: It is true that cattle have a nutritional need for iron and sulfur in their diet. In most of the country we seldom need to include these minerals in supplements because our forages already contain adequate levels. In fact, our frequent and extensive grass and hay analyses provide evidence that both iron and sulfur levels are excessively high in forages in many regions of the U.S. When in excess, these elements can actually inhibit the utilization of other essential minerals, like copper, zinc and selenium. When we formulate Right Now Mineral products, we select ingredients that contain low levels of iron and sulfur so we do not exacerbate existing challenges.

The nutritional components listed on Right Now Mineral tags include minerals that are known to be deficient in the regions for which the products are formulated.

“When I look at the ingredients on the mineral tag, I see ‘grain products, molasses, mineral oil & fat’… these aren’t minerals, why are they in there?”

Answer: Mineral alone is not much more than rock, and getting cattle to reliably consume rock is difficult at best. Non-mineral feed ingredients are added to mineral for a variety of reasons, including to provide intake control and to enhance weatherization properties.
