Optimize the Reproduction Program

In truth, reproduction begins during the dry period. Good nutrition through the transition period lays the groundwork for the critical factors of heat detection and insemination. An animal that makes it through transition and into lactation with few problems is more likely to be successful in reproduction.

Negative energy balance can affect implantation, the ability of a cow to carry a pregnancy, and embryo health, especially when it is severe or experienced for an extended period of time. Body condition loss in early lactation must also be watched, as any time an animal loses more than one point of body condition, reproductive performance can suffer.

Cargill Animal Nutrition uses its transition program to assist dairy operators with reproductive issues related to nutrition. Our consultants will design a program with you that optimizes health during dry, transition and early lactation periods that lead to strong reproduction results. As an additional benefit, you will be able to track progress toward program improvements. Reproductive program consultations include:

  • Production Management Audits of transition and early lactation groups
  • Herd health records evaluation
  • MAX™ system analysis of current transition and high cow diets
  • Ration recommendations developed with the MAX™ system Transition Cow Model
  • Early lactation ration recommendations that supply all needed nutrients for strong reproduction results
  • Program designed for maximum dry matter intake during the dry and early lactation periods
